Pave the way!
Role Queue is a UI/UX gaming conference focused on bringing game developers together to exchange ideas, get inspired, and have fun! To become better developers, we come together to learn.
Ideation, through iteration!
In order to bring out my best ideas possible, I drafted out as many different logos as I could. Trying to create a logo that felt gaming-like in nature, I quickly grew attached to wanting a mascot for the logo. While some might be fleshed out more than some, I found it valuable to experiment, compare, and contrast each sketch with the next.
Meaning through form!
To encapsulate the joy and whimsicality that comes from the industry, I wanted to reflect those themes in the logo. Ultimately, I landed one that featured our mascot, Kit. To further its form, Kit wears a costume, as if plucked straight from an RPG.
Solidifying the brand!
Despite the brand being playful in nature—that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t take itself seriously! To establish a stronger, unified identity for Role Queue, I designed a set of branding guidelines, exploring the do’s and don’ts for the conference. From logo usage to typeface styles, this document would provide a clear, concrete understanding of how to represent ourselves in a consistent manner.
Creating a companion app!
In Role Queue’s companion app, I wanted to make its value straightforward and simple—to let users keep track of what’s going on. I wanted to make sure visuals adequately contributed to the app’s UI, letting users quickly get a grasp of what talks are being presented, for which games. Check out the prototype here!
Experimenting with marketing!
To end the project, I wanted to explore different ways Role Queue could market itself, outside of posters and banners. Perhaps, my favorite idea was through the use of stickers! By taking advantage of Kit as a mascot, we could create different sticker designs that let Kit explore the world around them!
